OBX Towns Cut Off From Mainland

This one is for all of you wondering how OBX handled Irene. Well, it appears there was significant damage to the beautiful beaches of North Carolina. Hatteras and Ocracoke were cut off from the mainland as a result of severe flooding and damages. Although some are hoping that this is not the end of the season, I wouldn’t hold my breath on this! There are some costly repairs ahead for the OBX. However, this is not the worst storm they have endured by far, so I am sure the beaches will be up and running again.

The beach is so beautiful, I loved it when we went on vacation there several years ago. Despite its beauty and charm, I would never be able to live there simply because of the damages and dangers that result from storms like Irene. Imagine if an even more serious hurricane swept through there; the devastation would be so widespread! We are lucky there are so many people in the OBX committed to protecting the beach and saving it from erosion, otherwise it would have been gone long ago.
